Mid-winter is a somewhat odd time to be thinking about T-shirts. However, if we wish to come up with an artful design for our 40th anniversary conference, what better time to work on it than during cold, damp winter days?
Since we do not have a design in mind (other than displaying that it’s the 40th Anniversary WAS Conference, in Davis, CA, in 2017), I am asking WAS members, and anyone else who feels so inclined, to submit their designs to my T-shirt contact person, Nancy Stewart. Nancy has sold large volumes of custom shirts through her bee supplies store and she will be the final judge (although I’m pretty sure she will ask for a little input from the Executive Committee) for design selection. Nancy’s contact address for design submissions is: Sacramento Beekeeping Supplies, 2110 X Street, Sacramento, CA 95818.
Don’t worry about the details or “how good it looks.” We take the selected design and pass it on to a T-shirt printing shop that has its own artists who “work up” the design for our final approval before any ink hits the fabric.
I’m not going to push for a particular submission format, but if the design pretty well fills an 8.5 X 11 inch sheet of paper, that’s about right. If it is to be in color, please try to get the colors on the design.
The submissions have to be in Nancy’s hands by March 1st, 2017 to be considered (the sooner, the better). That will give us about four weeks to review and accept the final art and to be able to share the design with you in the April and July WAS journals.
We also will include the registration form in the April and July issues of the journal.
